WHO WE ARE
The Healing and Wellness Coalition is comprised of representatives
of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Diabetes Program,
Analenisgi, BIA Social Services, Tribal Domestic Violence Program,
various other tribal programs, several churches, traditional spiritual
leaders, elders and interested community people.
MISSION STATEMENT
To address the loss of culture and traditions that are a result
of acculturation, historical trauma, grief and loss which cause
many of the social problems that affect the well-being of Native
Americans, especially the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, to educate
community members and service providers of these effects, and to
begin the healing process from the effects of historical grief and
trauma.
This will be accomplished by:
- Sponsoring conferences, seminars and workshops to educate community
members and professionals to the concept of cultural trauma as
well as historical grief and trauma.
- Collaborative efforts with other federal, state and tribal
entities in the resolution of cultural trauma.
- Developing a long-range plan for sustainability of the Coalition.
